Venue Spotlight: Stop #1 on the Classic Southeast Roadshow – Vidrio, Raleigh, North Carolina

We are heading out on our final Roadshow of 2022 and we are going to end the year with a BANG! This one promises to be our biggest showcase and biggest gathering of meeting and event professionals of the year. One you will not want to miss!

Retreats Resources brings the Roadshow to you, but did you know we select the host venues with an experience in mind for every Meeting Planner and Event Specialist who attends. Let’s start with a little background on our first stop on the Classic Southeast Roadshow: Vidrio, Raleigh.

Vidrio is a colorful window into the flavors and soul of the Mediterranean kitchen. A creative expression of the passion, people, and lifestyle that have embodied a timeless culture.
Vidrio is the bold vision of restauranteur Lou Moshakos. Built on the philosophy of “love is the most important ingredient,” Vidrio is a family dream years in the making. When Lou speaks of his family, it is always centered around the table and filled with laughter, stories, and love.

This communal tradition of dining and sharing is captured in the essence of Vidrio. Vidrio embraces the Mediterranean dining philosophy – rooting it in the respect for the ingredient, the nourishment of food for our bodies and to use the time around the table to reconnect with each other. Making dining the occasion to gather together.

Vidrio is an open window into the Mediterranean. The vibrant, modern environment is visually mesmerizing and filled with warm, personal hospitality. These touches speak to the patience, creative vision and hard work of Lou Moshakos and his attention to detail to bring this ode to the Mediterranean to Raleigh.

Come join us in Raleigh on Tuesday, November 1st and see for yourself: 9:30 am – 10:00 am VIP Newcomers’ Reception for first time guests ONLY (so we can get to know you!), 10:00 am – 12:30 pm Luxury destination showcase with over exhibitors, and 12:30 – 2:00 pm for a family style lunch.
We look forward to welcoming you to Vidrio on November 1st and the first stop on the Classic Southeast Roadshow! Its gonna be big, y’all!

The Summer of the Bike!

Have you noticed more and more bike lanes in cities? And more and more bikes on the backs of cars this summer heading out on vacation? One thing the pandemic did was it got people outside and moving. We saw a run on bikes, making it near impossible to find new bikes to buy. But now we are seeing the bounce back to normal and bike travel is as popular as ever this summer. It’s fair to say the bike is having a moment.

From easy city riding in NYC and Montreal.

To beach riding in the Outer Banks and Los Angeles.

Islands offer scenic riding and bike ferries such as on Martha’s Vineyard and Mackinac Island.

CITY RIDING

Montreal boasts bike lanes and bike crossing lights, pubs and cafes along popular bike paths like the Lachine Canal Trail.

After two years of being closed off to the world Canada is as friendly as they ever were, cities are vibrant and alive, the locals and border agents happy to welcome you back. Montreal and Toronto are easy destinations for meetings and retreats in the northeast and boast hip neighborhoods and nightlife to incorporate into your trip.

New York City has barriered bike lanes making city travel on two wheels safe and efficient. But we all know its Central Park where the riding is scenic and at its best. It seems everyone is trying to rent you a bike there these days, but you can always rent a city bike and pick up and drop it off wherever you’d like. So skip the carriage ride next time and hit the bike paths in Central Park instead. We think its the best part of the city.

BEACH RIDING

On the other side of the country, Los Angeles, of course, is home to The Strand, one of the longest and best bike paths in the country. Start out in Venice and ride to the Santa Monica Pier and hit the West Coaster at Pacific Park, one of the best venues for group fun in all of LA, before riding back to Venice to take in the Venice Art Walls and skate park. There are plenty of beautiful hotels along the Strand in Santa Monica, as well, making a good jumping off point for your group.

ISLAND RIDING

Mackinac Island is, of course, the ultimate bike destination as it is an island without cars. Horse and carriage, bikes or on foot are your only options here. And we kind of like the bike option! There is an easy 8 mile loop around the island to bike and stop at rugged beaches or bring a picnic lunch along the way.

Renting a bike here is easy as they seem to have the largest inventory of bikes you will ever see, but you can also ferry your own bike there.

It might be the only place you can yell out “passing on your left!” to a horse as you pass. Bringing a group to The Grand Hotel on the island might be the ultimate Michigan experience in summer or fall.

Another favorite of ours, of course, is riding around the low country at Montage Palmetto Bluff, home to one of our Connoisseurs Circle retreats. We know seeing a destination by bike has a much different vantage point than by bus.

It’s a great group activity to get attendees outside, moving, talking, bonding and sharing an experience. Riding in the heart of the South Carolina coast means riding under the Spanish moss and the quaint southern landscape and certainly the perfect reason to end your ride on a southern porch with a glass of sweet tea.

So hurry, before summer comes to an end, and get out there for a ride! Whether it’s a ride thru your own neighborhood or you throw that bike on a bike rack and take it somewhere new to explore, we think it’s the best way to observe your surroundings and walk (or ride) away with special memories from a destination.

It’s the Summer of the Bike!

Roadshow Life: Making Connections Over Good Food and Good Deeds

If you know us you know we love good food! Each Roadshow event takes in to careful consideration a curated dining experience for our attendees and hotel partners.

Depending on the region we are in, of course, you may find yourself having a fine dining experience with us, or grazing on a beautiful mezze board or sampling a full plant-based meal to stuffing yourself with comfort food. One thing we know is no one walks away hungry from our Roadshow events! Food is one of our favorite experiences to bring you when you attend. There’s nothing like good conversation over good food!

You know what else we do well and love to do?
Give back.

Thanks to our generous hotel partners we have been able to auction off incredible travel packages at each of our recent Roadshows. Our fabulous meeting and event planner attendees then get the opportunity to bid on these travel packages during the travel showcase. Some of them are once in a life time trips!

The money from those auctions then goes to one of our favorite charities, Wine to Water, who this year, in a time of desperate need, has a fund to help people in Ukraine.

To date, in 2022, Retreats Resources has proudly raised and donated $42,000 for the Wine to Water Ukraine Fund! Thanks to our extremely giving family of hotel partners and meeting planners.

You make us proud every day we get to do something like this and give back.

To everyone who has joined us in 2022 so far…Thank you!

Northeast Roadshow: Venue and Chef Spotlight Stop #1 – The James NoMad and Eleven Madison Park, NYC

Retreats Resources is taking the show on the road to the Northeast for the first time ever!! And while we usually take this space to help familiarize you with the venues we chose, in this particular upcoming series we also want to introduce you to the Chefs we have partnered with for each event! We call them “Chefs with Heart”, and we think you will see why. Let’s start with a little background on our first stop on the Northeast Roadshow: The James NoMad and Eleven Madison Park, New York

Located on 29th St and Madison Ave, The James NoMad is a 337-room luxury hotel with the feel of an urban oasis. The hustle and bustle of the city melts away once you enter the richly decorated lobby, NoMad’s signature style, that turns into a wine bar at 5 pm. The hotel resides in the former Hotel Seville, a 12-story plus penthouse hotel that was built between 1901 and 1904, and comes with some colorful history as it was said to be where Harpo Marx worked as a bellhop. (His experiences there are said to have been incorporated in Marx Brothers skits.)

From The James we will move to Eleven Madison Park for our Chefs with Heart experience of the day.

Chef Daniel Humm, founder and proprietor of Eleven Madison Park, a three Michelin star restaurant, made the bold decision last year to transition his renowned restaurant to an entirely plant-based menu, citing climate change and sustainability as his rationale, and he says he has never been so inspired or creative!

He has been known to say he would risk everything for creative freedom. However, the change was welcomed by the restaurant’s patrons. In partnership with the philanthropy, Rethink Food, Chef Humm is dedicated to solving the problems of food waste in the restaurant industry, as well as tackling the needs of the food insecurity in NYC, via his innovative ” Eleven Madison Truck” food delivery service.

Come join us in New York City and see for yourself, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am in the Penthouse Suite of The James NoMad for our luxury destination showcase followed by cocktails and luncheon from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at Eleven Madison Park, featuring Chef Daniel Humm.

We look forward to welcoming you to the James NoMad and Eleven Madison Park and New York on July 19th and the first stop on the inaugural Northeast Roadshow!
